I was going through my blog draft and I found this unfinished post.
It was meant to be published a long time ago.
This is a true life story. It's short but i employ you to learn from this. This story was a testimony my dad shared sometime back.
This is a story of a mysterious cleaner in a local church here in Nigeria.
She would come as early as 6:00am on Sunday morning's to clean the church; she would sweep the floor, clean the chairs and even wash the toilet.
Every cleaning you could ever think of, she did them.
It wasn't possible for her to do it on Saturday's because different departments in the church usually meet for previews, rehearsals. etc.
Each time, the church workers get to church by 7:00am, they only come to meet the church well set for the meeting. Nobody knew how and perhaps nobody was extra curious to find out. To some, it was probably a relief.
This woman continued with this selfless act for months without disclosing her identity but unknowingly, her reward was just around the corner.
According to my Dad, one fateful day, a man who was not a member of that church had the leading by the Holy Spirit to hand over the key of a brand new Mercedes Benz 230 as far back as 2002, to anyone he meets in that church by 6:30am.
This man in his "innocent church mind" thought he would meet the pastor of the church. He went ahead with the instruction and as usual he met the old woman in the church.
He reluctantly gave the car keys to her and told her how he was led of the Holy Spirit to do that.
This elderly woman, who wasn't a literate and in her late 60's was really excited! She was given Mercedes Benz 230. Though I have no idea how much it cost way back in 2002 but I know it was really a fortune.
This woman stayed back till 7:00am this time around. She was still not sure and decided to give the key to the pastor.
Not too long, the pastor arrived and she narrated the whole event to him. He was bewildered at such sacrifice she had paid.
He gave the car key back to her and said "This is the reward of true service".
The woman who was a widow and lived from hand to mouth, sold off the car and used the money to start a business.That was how her story changed for good. (Well, i don't know if she continued sweeping).
Moral Lesson
- This woman might have realized that serving as a Sunday school teacher, usher or even as a chorister is not her strength and she gave the very best to God with what she could do-sweeping. This is not an excuse for not developing yourself but the focus here is actually diligence.
- God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.
- Never seek men praises but in humility, seek God's approval. Man seeking equals eye service but God seeking equals heart service.
- Remember, no matter what you do, If you think no one is watching, God is watching from above. He looks beyond the surface but seeks the intent of the heart and rewards on that basis.
