Right here in Nigeria among students there are some set of people we refer to as "EFIWE"(Passionate Reader) or "IGI IWE"(Tree Of Knowledge).
These people are excellent when it comes to academics.
They seem to just know how to do it. Their examination results are always stunning; The worst result would be a duo combination of "A's" and "B's".
These people are excellent when it comes to academics.
They seem to just know how to do it. Their examination results are always stunning; The worst result would be a duo combination of "A's" and "B's".
These people earn a lot of respect as a result of there hard work.
Mind you, I'm not referring to those who bribe their way through with money or people who get good grades by illegal influence; all in the name of confraternity. Some would threaten lecturers just for good grades.

MY CONCERN
I feel that in Nigeria the true meaning of education has been discarded.
It has become a ritual; everyone should go to school, graduate from the university, get the certificate, most preferably a second class upper or first class, get a job, have a family and live happily ever. As my oga at the top would say "THAT'S ALL".

I hear some people say they would start a business and not make use of their certificates while some would say "I'm in school only because of the certificate".
I'm not saying it's wrong to start a business or it's a must that you make use of your certificate.
It’s like there has been a diversion of attention from knowledge to collection of honors and degrees to beautify one’s CV(Curriculum Vitae).
Education is not all about getting the good grades, graduating with a first class honor or having all sort of qualification.

I wonder what happened to young people thirst for knowledge. Why are we not applying the knowledge we acquire? What happened to the true essence of education? Why does studying seem boring? Why has passing the examinations been the only priority; leading students to doing things which are against the set rules.
Who are the real scholars?
I agree that the Nigerian education sector is a mess and could be very tiring and discouraging but despite all odds those who are extremely determined and wants to make an impact would get there.My idea of the scholars are those who study because they enjoy doing it and have strong thirst for knowledge.
The real scholars are those who can apply their knowledge to solve problems.
The real scholars are the one’s who graduate and are still full of knowledge yet seek more.
The Philosophers
Philosophers like Aristotle, Socrates, David Erasmus and the rest of them saw education as a tool to shape the society.
Education is the bed rock of any community growth and development.
Some of the philosophers had different ideologies but majority believed that the knowledge an individual acquire is to make him/her useful to himself and the society.

I was a victim of rote learning and i strongly advice that you should avoid it.
The real scholar is not a certificate seeker but a knowledge seeker(seeks knowledge for usage not storage)
Your certificate is just an end to a means. Your certificate is just a prove that you went through a process.
Get the right motive for education, it will go along way to help you.
