7 Killer Weights That Can Crush Your Dreams

Note: All Bible citations are taken from the King James Version.

don't crush your dreams, killer weights

1. IMMORAL THOUGHTS

The mind (heart) is the place where all good and evil originate from. Every evil ever perpetrated originated from the mind.

The scripture says “guide your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life”. If the mind is captured, the whole body has been captured.

One of these thoughts that is really eating deep into the lives of youths is “Sexual thoughts”. Immoral thoughts of sex in whatever form can be the very of any believer that fails to deal with it sincerely.

For an instance, about four (4) years ago, I was a victim. I could hardly go a day without imagining myself having sex with various girls. I got bored of thoughts, so I moved on into porn. I was a mess.

I give Glory to God for redeeming me. I’m completely redeemed whether you believe it or not.
Whatever immoral thought you harbour in your heart, you need to drop them before they drop you.
“Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8

2. PRIDE

The wicked thing about pride is that you might not even know that you exhibit it. Peradventure, you have forgotten; pride goes before a fall. It’s not enough to know but you must be careful not to allow it linger any longer.

Anyone who consistently disobeys God’s instruction is exhibiting pride. It means you don’t reverence and therefore who is He to instruct you around.

Pride has been the bane of many Christians. Sometimes we attain a level of spirituality and we think we are beyond correction and you just make yourself  'omnipotent’.

I have seen some senior ministers in ministry who thinks attending Sunday school or bible study is a waste of time. Perhaps, maybe they think they have outgrown such meetings.
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.” – James 4:6

3. LAZINESS

Poor preparations always lead to poor performance. Most poor preparations can be traced back to laziness.

Before writing this post, I was feeling kind of lazy. I didn’t feel like doing anything but lay on my bed. Yes, we all have those moments but the truth is that we must take charge before it becomes a habit.

I took charge of that feeling, gathered courage to write this post.

I have realised that the best way to overcome laziness is to do that thing you don’t want to do. Tell yourself that you are dying every day because time is life. You only have one lifetime to get it right.
“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;” – Romans 12:11

4. LOOSE TONGUES

Each time you use curse words, talk too much, confess negative words, etc, you endanger yourself as a Christian. You can’t afford to misuse your tongue by cursing people or get involved in unhealthy discussions or even say evil things to yourself.

The power of life and death lies in the tongue. You can always trace the activities of the tongue back to your thoughts. Scripture says “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” If we want to regulate the tongue, always regulate the heart.”

Use your tongue for life. Spread the gospel, inspire someone, pray for someone, speak positive words to yourself, encourage someone, praise God, etc.
“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls “- Proverbs 25:28

5. ANGER

It’s quite true that none of the things I previously mentioned outweighs each other but i would say anger is to be treated with extra caution. Anger can destroy the individual and the things or persons around him/her.

Anger spreads like wild fire if not contained. Do you remember when I referred to anger as “hulk mode”? Everyone has the potential of switching into hulk mode but the good news is that with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can extinguish it.

Some people justify being angry but I guess that’s a topic for another day.

Anger comes in various forms; bitterness, malice, envy, resentment, intolerance, revenge, wrath, hatred, sedition, jealousy, attack, gossip, sarcasm, unforgiveness, etc.
“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”- Proverbs 16:32

6. FEAR

Fear can come in different forms; worry anxiety, timidity, indecision, superstition, withdrawal, loneliness, over-aggression, doubts, inferiority, cowardice, suspicion, depression, hesitancy, haughtiness, shyness, etc.

It’s not only that fear dampens your spirit, it also lead to diseases which in turn can bring about untimely death.

In the scripture, the number of times recorded where God said ‘fear not’ is over 400 times. This can tell us how important it is to keep a courageous spirit.
“Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” – Matthew 6:25

Seven Steps for Dropping Unnecessary weights

Over the years, I have carried some of these weights and I’ll share some secrets I learnt from Tim Lahaye the author the bestselling book “Why you act the way you do”.

According to him, it may not seem scientific to some, but I know it’s biblical and it works!

  1. See your Weights as Sin.
  2. Confess them anytime they occur.
  3. Ask God to take them away.
  4. Forgive the person who caused it. (if any)
  5. Give thanks to God always.
  6. Consecrate your thought pattern. (via God’s word)
  7. Repeat the above formulas each time you see traces.

I like the 3rd and 6th issues. These are common issues which can come any time while doing work. We should overcome all these so that we can get success.
Great and inspirational stuff.
